Scapple 1.5.3

Scapple 1.5.3 macOS

Scapple is the software equivalent of how I work out my rough ideas on paper. (If I didn’t dislike the word “brainstorming” so much, I’d probably call it brainstorming software.) When I’m in the early stages of a project—whether it’s writing or software development—I like to throw a bunch of ideas onto a big sheet of paper, spacing out unrelated thoughts, clustering related ones, and drawing connections between them as I try to see how everything fits together.

Scapple is like working ideas out on paper—but without the paper. It’s a simple tool for quickly jotting down thoughts, linking related ideas, and seeing how they connect as your project takes shape. Scapple helps you capture your ideas the way they naturally come—freely and without structure. Just jot down notes anywhere on the page, move them around, and connect related thoughts as you explore how everything fits together.

Features:

  • Most mind-mapping apps assume you start with one central concept and build outward in a hierarchy.
  • Scapple rejects that rigidity—it’s nonhierarchical and nonlinear, allowing free exploration of ideas.
  • It’s designed to be simple, lightweight, and frictionless—“the digital equivalent of a big sheet of paper.

Compatibility: macOS 10.10 or later
